Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 Walkthrough/Strategy Guide written exclusively for *Cheat Code Central* at http://www.cheatcc.com/ by THECODEBASE@aol.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Introduction ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Welcome to the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 strategy guide. I hope to get all of the levels, skaters, gaps and secrets of the game up here soon. For now, I'm not going to include the stats, names and tricks of the skaters, simply because you can check them all in the game. Until then, have fun and enjoy the game! Oh, and you can email me at THECODEBASE@aol.com PS- Sorry about any mistakes with the words. I'll try to find and correct any mistakes. Since I'll try to update this often, I'm making a version list so you can check to see what's new. V1.0 10/6/01: Started the guide. Typed General Tips; Stats; Tricks; Buying Stats, Boards, and Tricks; How The Point System Works; got The Hangar, School 2, and Marseille completely finished. Added Ollies section and intro to Career Mode. Fixed a few minor errors. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ General Tips: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Hold Down-C to move faster and ollie higher. *Hold Down-C and tap Up once, then release Down-C to do a No Comply. A No Comply lets you jump higher than an ollie. *Hold Down-C and tap Up twice, then release Down-C to do a Boneless. A Boneless lets you jump higher than a No Comply. *Hold in Up when approaching a lip of a half or quarter pipe to roll out of it. *Tap Down-C just after leaving the lip of a quarter of half pipe to get higher into the air. This makes it easier to pull off long tricks like The 900. Tap Up then Down or Down then Up to do a manual. This is a good way to link up huge trick combinations over flat ground, or when long rails are unavailable. * Tap buttons (any or all) when you fall. This will cause you to get up faster. *Use Up and Down to balance when you are doing a manual, and Left and Right to balance when you are grinding. *Use a variety of tricks. A Kickflip starts at 100 points, but if you use it enough times, it goes down to 10. Also, Switch tricks increase the score by 20%, so a Switch Kickflip is worth 120 points. *Go Switch by doing a Powerslide (tap R while on the ground) or a 180. *Tap L when on the ground to do a Nollie or Fakie Ollie. Even if it is only worth a few points, the Nollie will give you an extra multiplier. ~~~~~~ Stats: ~~~~~~ What they mean: Air: This affects how high you get when you go off a quarter or half pipe. Hangtime: This affects how long you stay in the air when you go off a quarter or half pipe. Ollie: This changes how high you ollie on flat ground. Speed: This affects how fast you move on the ground. Spin: With a higher spin rating, you can spin 540s and 720s easier. Landing: When you jump off of high places (like the Leap of Faith!!! in School 2), you will get a Big Drop sign. A higher landing stat will help you to land off of higher heights. Switch: Switch determines how high your stats are when you are going "switch", or opposite of the normal way (you can go switch by doing a Powerslide or a 180). With this maxed, your stat will be 100% of what the are when you skate regular. Rail balance: This affects your skater's balance on rails (anything other than a lip) Lip Balance: This affects how your skater balances on quarter or half pipe lips. Manuals: This affects your balance when you are doing a manual. There are three types of skaters: Vert, Street, and All-Around. Street skaters usually have high Ollie, Speed, Switch, Rail Balance, and Manual stats. Vert Skaters usually have high Air, Hangtime, Spin, Landing, and Lip Balance. All- Around skaters are a blend of each. Each skater has distinct stats, though, so this really only applies to created skaters. ~~~~~~~ Tricks: ~~~~~~~ Airs (vert)Tricks: These tricks are mainly grabs. The normal controller button for vert tricks is Right-C. If you hold in Right-C, you can continue to hold the board, and get more points. Method, Indy, Stalefish and Japan Air are a few of my favorites. Flip Tricks: These tricks are normally assigned to Left-C. They are tricks where the skater moves the board using only his or her feet. They cannot be held, unless you are doing certain special moves. A few of my favorites are 360 Flip, Hardflip, Impossible and Front Foot Impossible. Other: I don't know what to classify these tricks are. They aren't grabs, but they aren't flips because the skater uses their hands. These include Varial, Kickflip to Indy, Varial Heelflip Lien, and Sal Flip. Also there are Wallrides. Do a Wallride by going up to a wall at an angle, jumping and hitting Up-C. Spins: Spins can be done by pressing either R or L (the shoulder buttons) while you're skater is in the air. They add points to your score, and you can increase it or decrease your trick score by landing Perfect or Sloppy. If you land perfectly after a spin by making the board land straight on the ground, quarter pipe or half pipe, you will get a "Perfect" trick (for example: Perfect 540 Indy). If you land at an angle that will not make you fall, yet it was still a pretty bad landing, you will get a "Sloppy" trick. Sloppy tricks will decrease your total trick score. I will try to find out how much they increase or decrease your score. Grinds: Grinds are the easiest way to rack up points. There are several different kinds of grinds, and you can pull off any of them by jumping towards a rail and pressing any direction. You can also just land on it sideways and do a Boardslide or a 50-50 if you land on it straight. You can also do a grind by pressing Up, Up, Up-C for a Nose Bluntslide or Down, Down, Up-C for a Bluntslide. If you hold in Left or Right, you can do a Noseslide or a Tailslide. Lip Tricks: Lip tricks are stalls and handplants. They can be done on most quarter pipes and half pipes, and some rails. They are done by holding Up, Right, Down, or Left and Up-C. My favorite lip tricks are the Mute Invert and One Foot Invert. Specials: Every skater has three special moves to start with. You can buy more, providing you have the money. I wouldn't do this until you have full stats and all your skater's boards, though. You can even by signature moves like Tony Hawk's 900! Specials are pulled off like Bluntslides. Take Geoff Rowley's "Rowley Darkslide," for example. You can pull this off by pressing Left, Right Top-C when jumping onto a rail. The catch is that you have to have your special meter full. You can fill your special meter by accumulating 3000 points in one trick or one combo, or by several smaller tricks. The problem with pulling off several smaller tricks is that as you fill it, it goes down. When you do make the green level fill the bar, it turns yellow and starts to flash. Then you can pull off special moves. Specials come in every other type of move except for lip tricks and ollies. Examples are (in the order that I listed the trick types): Bucky Lasek's One Foot Japan, Steve Caballero's Triple Kickflip, Rune Glifberg's Kickflip One-Foot Tail, Tony Hawk's 900, Geoff Rowley's Rowley Darkslide, and Rodney Mullen's Casper to 360 Flip. Manuals: Manuals are like grinds, but there are only two standard manuals. They are Nose Manual and Manual. Ollies: There are a few different types of ollies. There is the regular ollie (Down-C), the Nollie (tap L and press Down-C), the Fakie Ollie (tap R to Powerslide or jump and do a 180 to go Switch, then press L, and finally press Down-C). There is also the No Comply and Boneless too. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Buying Stats, Boards, and Tricks: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Stats: Buying stats is probably the first thing you want to do. Every skater has unique stats, and you will need to buy more stats to complete the game. Stats increase in value as you buy more. The first stats are relatively cheap, but with every stat you buy, the price goes up, ending at $2500 for the last stat. You can buy stats in any order you choose, but I recommend thinking about what level you are going to skate on next. For example, on courses like Philadelphia, you would use mainly the Speed, Switch, Rail Balance, Ollie, Manual and Landing stats. You may use Spin a bit, but it can be difficult to pull off 360s without a ramp. So it would be a good idea to increase those stats. Boards: You need a board to skate, and since you start Career Mode with no money, they give you one for free. You can buy other boards, but I wouldn't at first. It's a good idea to increase your skater's stats before you buy boards. I have found that increasing your skater's stats until they are full or two stats short of full in every category and then buying boards is a good way to spend your money. The best board won't help in the least if your ollie stat isn't high enough to get it off the ground. Tricks: The one thing that may make sense to buy first is probably the thing you should wait to buy last. If you spend all of your money on tricks, you won't have any money to spend on stats. There is no way to sell tricks. With my custom skater, I beat Career Mode with him, maxed his stats, bought all his boards, and had some money left (every skater will). I bought mostly all new tricks, got some new special moves, and only had a few thousand dollars left (somewhere around $2,000). How the point system works: The more you use a trick, the fewer points it is worth. Some tricks are naturally worth more because of difficulty or length, but all go down in value. When you pull off combos, it takes your total points for that combination and multiplies it by the number of tricks in your combination. So if you do a Kickflip, land, and then do a 50-50 grind and get 500 points for it, you will have 600 points. But, if you do a Kickflip and land in a 50-50 grind (or do a 50-50, jump and do a Kickflip), your screen will say 600 x 2. 600 points worth of tricks, and 2 tricks, which is worth 1200 points. Simple, isn't it? ~~~~~~~~~~~ Career Mode ~~~~~~~~~~~ Career Mode is the core of the game. You unlock cheats, levels and skaters by beating the game with certain skaters. Is the 2-player mode fun? Yes. Is the Park Builder a cool way to test your skills? Yes. But you won't always be able to play the game with someone, and even the largest areas in the Park Builder have limits. Career Mode is the only place to earn money, although you can spend it outside of Career Mode. Also, nothing increases your skills like Career Mode. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Level 1: The Hangar Mullet Falls, MT Price: Free ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This course is relatively small, and the objectives are fairly simple. The Hangar is perfect for beginners. While your here, this is something interesting to do. Grind the propeller on the side of the half pipe. Then, go back and grind it again before it stops spinning. Interesting, isn't it? Sick Score Tips: Use the quarter pipes around the edges of most of the course to put together a huge grind combo. The half pipe near the start of the level is also great for vert moves like grabs and Specials. Objectives: Money Value: 1)High Score- 10,000 $100 2)Pro Score- 25,000 $200 3)Sick Score- 75,000 $500 4)Collect S-K-A-T-E $150 5)Barrel Hunt $150 6)Collect 5 Pilot Wings $250 7)Nosegrind Over The Pipe $150 8)Hit 3 Hangtime Gaps $150 9)Find The Secret Tape $150 10)100% Goals and Cash $200 4)Collect Skate: S- The S is right in front of the starting point. Roll down the hill and grind over the half pipe to reach it. K- The K is just after the S. After you finish grinding over the pipe, turn slightly to the left to go towards the quarter pipe by the wall to hit the K. A- The A is sitting on top of the airplane by the half pipe. Roll up one of the wings to get it. It seems like these letters are put in order around the course. T- The T is by the quarter pipe just after the A. Jump through the glass to get it. E- After getting the T, there will be a helicopter. Turn to the left and go up the tan quarter pipe to grab the E. 5)Barrel Hunt: 1-Go down the hill at the start and across the half pipe. The first barrel is sitting on the other side of the half pipe. 2- The second barrel is sitting at the bottom of the half pipe. Roll into the end of the half pipe or fall in off the edge. 3- Leave the half pipe by rolling out the end. If you turn left, you can see the third barrel. 4-After getting the third barrel, go off the quarter pipe (where the T was). The fourth barrel is on the other side. 5-The fifth barrel is sitting on top of the quarter pipe where the E was. Hold Up and roll towards the quarter pipe. You should hit it. The other way that you can get it is by grinding on the quarter pipe (or the ones on either side of it) and jumping off the lip onto it. 6)Collect 5 Pilot Wings: 1)Go down the hill at the starting point and to the right. At the end of the half pipe there will be a propeller. Grind across it to hit the first pilot wing. 2) Turn around and jump or grind across the half pipe. Jump off the quarter pipe on the far side and grind right along the rail. The second pilot wing is at the end of the rail, but you will have to ollie to get to it. You can also get it by jumping from one quarter pipe across the gap to the other. 3)Turn right and head for the front of the airplane. There will be a rail there. Grind along the rail to get the third pilot wing. 4)The fourth pilot wing is above the quarter pipe directly in front of you. Crash through the glass to grab it. 5)The last pilot wing is along the quarter pipe in front of you. You can grind, grab, flip or lip trick the quarter pipe to get it. 7)Nosegrind Over The Pipe: Roll down the starting hill and hold up and grind (nosegrind). You will grind across the half pipe and get the goal. 8)Hit 3 Hangtime Gaps Halfpipe Hangtime- Roll down the starting hill and hold Down-C (jump). Right before you leave the edge of the half pipe, release it. You should ollie across the half pipe. Wingtip Hangtime- Roll up one of the wings on the airplane by the half pipe and jump off of it over the plane. Skycrane Hangtime- This is probably the hardest of the three. Ollie from ramp to ramp over the helicopter to get this gap. If you can't make it, do a No Comply (Hold Down-C, tap Up, and then release Down-C) or Boneless (The same as a No Comply, but tap Up twice). 9)Find The Secret Tape Go to the helicopter area. Jump off a ramp by the helicopter and grind on it. A door will open up nearby, leading to the outside. The secret tape is just above the quarter pipe although you don't even have to be in hte air to get it. You can just roll up the quarter pipe and you will get the Secret Tape. 10)100% Goals and Cash $50- It is by the K. You will be able to reach it by jumping off the quarter pipe. 3 $50s and a $100- Grind along the propeller by the half pipe (where pilot wing 1 was) to open a secret area, the Wind Tunnel. Go inside it to find three $50s and a $100. $50- There is another $50 where the E was. *$100- The last $100 is high above the course. Grind on the helicopter to get it out of the way, then use the tan quarter pipes on either side of it like a half pipe. Hold in Down-C to avoid hitting the bars, and when your ready, launch off the quarter pipe closest to the starting point and grind on the rail above it. Ollie off the end into the $100 bill. *Note- I usually save this for the end of the Career, when my skater has maxed stats and a fully upgraded board. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Level 2: School 2 Carlsbad, CA Price: $1000 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This course is one of my favorites. It's wide open and bright, and can be used by pretty much anyone. There are enough places to link up combos, but you have to hunt for the really good ones. And it even has a secret area... Sick Score Tips: When you start, grind along the left edge of the planter. Then manual, and grind down the staircase rail. Do a manual down the little bank and grind along the gym rails to the left. After that there are two benches you can grind on, then manual to the left around the corner and lip trick the quarter pipe. You can do a vert move here, but if you miss the quarter pipe on the landing, you will lose all those points. Also, if you start to lose your balance, don't push it. Ollie out of the grind or manual and keep going. *Secret Area: At the start, turn right after the miniature ramp and go down the hallway. At the end, turn left and go forward until you see a rail. When the timer says 1:43, a bell will ring and a golf cart will come around the corner and up the ramp to the right of the rail. Immediately grind the rail. At the end, turn left between the buildings and go forward to the gym rails. The door to the gym will be open, allowing you access to the pool (to the left) and the basketball court (to the right). Go to the pool to pull off vert moves (especially if you have a vert skater) or grind around the edge. The basketball court is mainly for fun. Objectives: Money Value: 1)High Score- 15,000 $200 2)Pro Score- 40,000 $350 3)Sick Score- 100,000 $500 4)Collect S-K-A-T-E $400 5)Wallride 5 Bells $500 6)Collect 5 Hall Passes $400 7)Kickflip TC's Roof Gap $400 8)Grind 3 Roll Call Rails $500 9)Find The Secret Tape $500 10)100% Goals and Cash $500 4)Collect S-K-A-T-E S- At the start, turn right after the little ramp and go down the hallway. There will be a rail in the middle of it. Grind this rail to get the S. K- After you come out of the hallway, there will be a courtyard. In the middle of this courtyard there will be a raised platform. Ollie onto this platform or go up one of the ramps at the sides. At the end closest to the hallway, there will be a quarter pipe with the K on it. A- Go to the opposite end of the courtyard, and to the left. Go through the short hallway to a rail. Grind this rail to get the A. T- At the end of the rail, turn right and go forward past the bike racks, then down the bank to a quarter pipe. The T rests above it. E- From the T, go away from the quarter pipe to the left of the building in front of it (between the ramp and the building). After that, turn slightly to your right and you will see a quarter pipe. On top of this quarter pipe is the E. 5)Wallride 5 Bells Bell 1) It's just after the start. On the right, look for a ramp against the wall. The bell is just above it. You have to wallride these bells, and you can do that by pressing ollie and then grind. When you are doing a Wallride, pressing jump again will get you even higher into the air than a Boneless. This is called a Wallie. Bell 2) After Bell 1, turn down the hallway on your right. Go out into the courtyard, and keep going straight. When you reach the far wall, turn left. Go down until you see a brick quarter pipe with sloped ends. The next bell is on the wall behind this quarter pipe. Bell 3) From the quarter pipe, find the staircase rail where the A was. Grind down and make a sharp left turn. There should be a brown wall on your left, with a third bell on it. Bell 4) Turn around and go up onto the gray platform, and go past the bike racks. The bell is on the wall directly ahead of you. Bell 5) From bell four, keep going straight, past the quarter pipe and planter. There will be a gray ledge with a dumpster on it. The last bell is on the wall behind the dumpster. 6)Collect 5 Hall Passes Pass 1) From the start, go straight, but stay to the right. There will be hallway that goes downward. In the middle of the hallway is a rail. The Pass is near the top of the rail. Pass 2) From the end of the hallway, veer left. The Pass is in the air by the lunch tables. Pass 3) From the lunch tables, veer left again and head for the gym. Grind one of the rail that is parallel to the building and ollie to get the Pass. You need to have some speed to do this. Pass 4) Go around the corner of the building. The fourth Pass is above the second quarter pipe. Pass 5) On the other side of the building's where you Kickflipped TC's Roof, there is a planter. The last Pass is on the edge of the planter. 7)Kickflip TC's Roof Gap From the start, go straight and grind the staircase rail or jump off the edge to get to the lower level. Keep going straight until you get to 2 light tan buildings. There will be two ramps by these buildings. Use them to get to the roof of one of the buildings. Jump from one building to the other and do a Kickflip (Left and Left-C). If you land on the other roof, you will get the objective. 8)Grind 3 Roll Call Rails Rail 1)From the start, grind the staircase rail. At the bottom, do not do a manual. If you do, you won't get it. At the bottom, it should say "One of Three Roll Call Rails." Rail 2)Keep going and stay right along the wall in front of you. It will turn, and you should too. Eventually you'll get to the rail by the A. Go to the top of this rail and grind down it to get the second rail. Rail 3)From the second rail, go straight and around the building, past where you Kickflipped TC's roof. There will be a third rail by a staircase. Jump off the nearby ramp and grind down the rail to get the final rail. You can also do a Boneless or Wallride to get up the steps, turn around and grind the whole rail. It works either way. 9)Find The Secret Tape From the start, go down the hallway on the right past the ramp. Get up onto the raised courtyard platform and go off the quarter pipe to get some air. Hold in jump and head away from the quarter pipe down the platform. Hold in Up to roll down the boards, and then do a Boneless to get to the gap in the roof. Ollie or Boneless into the tape in the middle of the gap. 10)100% Goals and Cash $50- After the Secret Tape, turn left and grind the curving rail. $50- At the start, look for a building with two quarter pipes on either side of it on your left. The $50 is above the quarter pipe farthest from the start. $50- At the start, look for a rail directly in front of you. jump over this rail to the balcony on your left, and then jump off of that balcony to grab the $50. $50- From the start, Wallride and Wallie off the little ramp, then grind on the ledge above to get a $50. $50- From the start, head down the hallway in front of you. Turn right at the end. The $50 is above the quarter pipe. $50- At the start, turn right at the first hallway. Keep going and turn at the second left. There will be a $50 in the middle of the room. $50- Wallride and wallie off the little ramp at the start, grind the ledge, and jump to the right. Jump through the glass, across the gap, land on the roof, and grind the rail on the other side of the box at the end. You will now be on another building. Stay on the right, and slow down when you get to the end. On your left, there will be a $50. Do a Boneless to reach it. Seems like a lot of work for only a $50, but will it pay off in the end? $50- Go to the quarter pipe where the K was. From there (facing away from it), go down the second ramp. There will be a gap between two planters nearby. Ramp off of the one on the left, then Wallride and Wallie to get to the roof. The $50 is on the edge. $100- Go to the top of the rail with the A on it. Head into the courtyard, but just after you enter it, grind the edge of the bricks to your right (not the low ones, there will be an opening where the wall should be). Jump to your right, into the opening, and then up to the roof. Grind along the edge to get the $100. $100-After the Secret Tape, go down the bank or steps and turn right. The $100 is above the quarter pipe. $100- At the start, Wallride and Wallie off the little ramp, and grind on the ledge. Jump to the right and crash through the glass. Across a gap and the roof, there will be a small ramp and a box. Jump over the middle of the box and grind the rail on the other side. The $100 is about halfway along the rail. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Level 3 Marseille France Price: $3000 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is the first competition. In all the competitions, there will be 3 medals awarded, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. You will get different amounts of money for each medal and each competition. Also, if you get Silver and then Gold, you won't get the money for Silver and all the money for Gold. You'll get the money for Silver and then the rest of the money from Gold. As an example, let's say that Silver is $750 and Gold is $1000. If you get Silver, you will get $750. If you go back and get Gold after that, you will only receive $250. Your best shot at winning: Do all your tricks, and go switch for extra points. Pull off all your specials, and spin while pulling them off, if you can. Other than that, turn left at the start. There will be a large wall with two funboxes at either end. Wallride and Wallie (a Wallie is when you press Down-C when you are wall riding)to the top, where you can grind. Jump off the edge after you turn (it will turn your skater automatically), and grind on the dumpster. Manual after the first dumpster, and ollie over the second dumpster. Do a manual and go up the side of the bowl, then pull off a huge vert move. You can also grind the long rails by the clover-leaf end of the pool, then manual to the dirt ledge. This is a good time to do any special grinds. You can grind for a while on this, then ollie off the edge and grind again on the ledge that looks like a ramp. From there, jump onto the rail, and then to the funbox. Objectives: Prize Money: 1)Get a medal- Gold $7,000 Silver $4,250 Bronze $2,000 2)100% Goals and Cash $ $50- Turn left from the start. There will be two funboxes and a wall. Ramp off one of the funboxes, Wallride and Wallie to the top of the wall. There you can grind to get the $50. $100- Look for a crossbar in the middle of the course. It is by the clover-leaf section of the pool. What you have to do is go towards the crossbar and the quarter pipe closest to the wall I mentioned before. Then you need to hold Up (to get you out of the pool) and then ollie after you leave the lip of the pool. After that, hold grind. You should be able to grind the crossbar, but if not, try again. A $100 and 5 $50s- The rest of the money is in a secret place. From the start, go to the opposite side of the course. There will be a dirt ledge there. Look for a dark colored sign post (it should be near the middle), and then look for a small piece of wood leaning against it. Skate into this piece of wood, which will let the post fall and break the fence. Fall through the hole to the secret area. There should be 6 bills in here, a $100 and 5 $50s.
